My Pilates Journey: From Sidelines to Center Stage

For years, I watched Pilates from the sidelines, intrigued but convinced it wasn’t for me. Like so many, I saw the “Pilates Body” online and thought, “That’s not my body.” At 265 lbs, with no fitness routine and constant aches and pains, the gym felt intimidating and out of reach. I didn’t feel like I belonged there—and honestly, I didn’t want to be there.

Then, a friend told me about a new Pilates studio opening nearby. What caught my attention? They featured real, everyday bodies. No perfection, no pressure—just people showing up for themselves. That was the moment I decided to give it a try.

As someone who’s neurodivergent, I also appreciated the structure and predictability of Pilates. It gave me a sense of calm and control in a world that often felt overwhelming. Pilates became my time to tune in, let go of the noise, and reconnect with myself.

The more I showed up, the more I felt the shift—not just in my body, but in my life. I started noticing how my practice gave me clarity, confidence, and a sense of calm I hadn’t felt in years. As an introvert, I even found a community that welcomed me with open arms. It was a space where I felt seen and supported, and that was life-changing.

For so long, I lived on autopilot, juggling parenting and a demanding corporate job. When someone asked me what I was passionate about, I didn’t even have an answer. I’d forgotten what passion felt like. But Pilates lit a spark in me I didn’t know existed. It became my non-negotiable—a way to show up for myself and be the best version of me.

Eventually, the opportunity to become a teacher presented itself, and with the encouragement of my community, I took the leap. Now, I teach at the very studio that opened its doors to me, while balancing parenting and my corporate career (for now!).

And because life is busy, I created a virtual Pilates option to make this practice accessible for people like me—people who are juggling a million things but know they need to prioritize themselves.

Life is hectic, and it’s easy to feel like there’s no time for you. But trust me, you can make time. Pilates isn’t just a workout—it’s your way to feel calm, centered, and in control. Let’s create a plan that fits your life and gets you back to feeling like the best version of yourself.
